Tom Pijnappel (Eindhoven University of Technology) - Data-Driven Optimization of Drone-Assisted Cellular Networks Supervisors: Sem Borst Recorded full presentation Abstract As wireless cellular networks have become critical infrastructure in today’s digital society, these networks provide sufficient coverage and capacity under normal circumstances. However, in case of atypical scenarios, e.g., events with massive crowds or network outages, they might no longer be able to provide the desired capacity and/or coverage. In case of such an atypical scenario, drone base stations can help safeguard coverage and provide capacity relief. Therefore, we will focus on a disaster scenario with the emergence of a traffic hotspot, where agile drone positioning and load management is a critical issue. To address this challenge, we propose and assess a data-driven algorithm which leverages real-time measurements to dynamically optimize the 3D position of the drone and a cell selection bias tuned for optimized load management. |
