Topic 2017: Developments and applications in the area of Game Theory
During our education we all have had some sort of introduction into game theory. Sure, we know what game theory is, we can explain the prisoners' dilemma and we know the Nash equilibrium (and have seen the movie too). But what do we know on top of that? That is where it will stop for a lot of us. Do we see the applications of game theory interwoven in our lives? Are we thriving as a society as a whole because of it? We don't really know, do we?
Noted for the first time in literature in 1713, game theory blossomed really starting from the 1930s. The prisoners' dilemma is dating from the 1950s and that is about the same time John Nash did his most famous work that would deliver him the Nobel prize 44 years later. But since then the research has not stopped. The wide application area of game theory include economics, biology, philosophy, politics, and computer science. In today's world where resources, supply chains, and profit are shared, game theory plays an important role in determining what is "fair". But also in making sure that government policies have the desired effect, or in how market leaders can influence the market developments, game theory can be used. In another area, think about the Internet of Things, how individual sensors and components measure, make decisions, act, and interact, all based on rules and game theory principles. Game theory is used more than most of us are aware.
This year, at the 3rd day of the annual LNMB congress in Lunteren, we will further explore the developments and applications of the game theory area of expertise. With a line-up of national and international renowned speakers you will get an overview of the latest and greatest developments and applications in game theory. It is going to be an exciting day and we hope to see you all there!
